Prism Sound’s European/US Tour Comes to Lyndon

LYNDON CTR., Vt. – Looking to bring your audio engineering skills to the next level with a professional who has worked with the likes of Coldplay, Elton John, and B.B. King? You can do just that at a special Lyndon State College event this October. United Kingdom-based Prism Sound is making a special stop in Lyndonville as part of their “Mic to Monitor” US and European tour. It’s the only stop between Montreal and Boston. Lyndon joins other excellent schools such as Drexel University, Ball State, and the University of Michigan in this unique opportunity. The event is free to the public and takes place Tuesday, October 24 from 6 – 9:30 p.m. in the Burke Mountain Room.
Lyndon is hosting an increasing number of these events as a complement to the Music Business and Industry (MBI) department’s Audio Production degree. These types of events demonstrate Lyndon’s growing influence in audio education and also create networking opportunities between students, faculty, guests, and professional audio companies.
According to Professor Brian Warwick “Lyndon’s MBI faculty prides itself on staying connected to entertainment industry professionals. They do this by maintaining long standing relationships, working on internationally distributed music, and attending national conferences. This event came from a connection made at the NAMM Show that takes place in Southern California every January, and it shows a commitment by Lyndon to bring the entertainment industry to New England’s North Country.”
“Mic to Monitor” seminars simplify terminology and provide realistic conversation about the folklore associated with much of the techniques and technology. They want to help participants succeed regardless of what level they are working in, and these technical sessions cover a range of themes including music, sound recording, and production.
These seminars “sweep aside the myths, the jargon and the plain nonsense that is too often peddled as fact in the wonderful recording industry,” says Prism Sound on their website. “We tell it like it is, to help you get the best out of the tools you use regardless of the brand.”
During the seminar participants will learn about room acoustics, microphone technology and techniques, loudspeaker technology, interface and converter technology, as well as hearing safety and in-ear monitoring, and psycho-acoustics and perception.
Lyndon’s event features LA-based audio engineer Vanessa Parr who has engineered for Elton John, T Bone Burnett, Jill Scott, and many more. She will take participants through her mixes to reveal the tricks of the trade that make up two decades of work. Parr is a senior technical engineer at the UCLA Herb Alpert School of Music.
Participants will gain insight into 21st-century methods used by professionals in the audio production field, the best gear for capturing and manipulating contemporary sound, techniques for creating hit songs, and career advice for successful progression in the audio field.
Prism Sound has been delivering quality studio gear for over two decades describing themselves as: “Originally set up as an R&D consultancy developing designs for pro and consumer audio companies, Prism Sound now manufactures its own high-end recording and mastering products, as well as audio test and measurement equipment and networked audio logging systems.” They will present this event along with top companies SADiE, GIK Acoustics, RODE microphones, and Genelec. Attendees will be automatically entered into a drawing featuring $6,500 worth of prizes from the participating manufacturers.
