Science Speaker Series Starts Sept. 5 at Northern Vermont University-Johnson

The 24th annual Current Topics in Science Speaker Series starts Sept. 5 and runs through Dec. 12 at Northern Vermont University-Johnson.

All of the presentations, free for the public, are 4-5:15 p.m. in Room 207 at Bentley Hall. The series is coordinated by NVU-Johnson’s Environmental and Health Sciences Department.

The September speakers and topics include:

  • Sept. 5 — Bill Irwin, radiological and toxicological sciences program chief with Vermont Department of Health, “Radiation and Radioactive Materials: A Life in the Day”
  • Sept. 12 — Zen Faulkes, biology professor at the University of Texas-Rio Grande Valley, “The ‘Lobster in the Pot’ Problem: Whether Crustaceans Feel Pain”
  • Sept. 19 — Carl Brandon, CubeSat Laboratory director at Vermont Technical College, “From Physicist to Rocket Scientist, and How to Make a CubeSat That Works!”
  • Sept. 26 — Graham Bradley, program hydrogeologist and soil geologist at the Vermont Department of Environmental Conservation, “Landscape Evolution and Hydrogeology of the Katonga Valley in Southwest Uganda”
