Veterans Center Opens at JSC
Veterans’ Services Now Available at Johnson State College
March 29, 2013
Through a partnership with the South Burlington Vet Center, Johnson State College is now offering counseling services to area veterans on Fridays.
“Although there are many services available to help veterans make a successful post-war adjustment, one of the main barriers is accessibility to those services,” says Marie Milord of the South Burlington Vet Center, who staffs the new Vet Center at JSC. “Until now, veterans and their families have had to travel to South Burlington or even farther away in order to meet with someone at a veterans’ center.”
The Vet Center at JSC is housed in the JSC Counseling Center, located on the lower level of Senators South. Appointments are available to veterans and their families or significant others from 10 a.m. to 2:30 on Fridays.
“I encourage veterans who have questions about their VA benefits, or who are having trouble coping with wartime experiences, to reach out to me,” says Milord. “We also are here to provide readjustment counseling and outreach services to veterans and their loved ones.”
Establishing the Vet Center at JSC is one of several steps the college has taken this year to reach out to veteran students.
“We appreciate the service of our veterans and are extremely pleased to help bring this service to the Johnson community,” says JSC Dean of Students David Bergh, who heads a college committee devoted to serving JSC students who are veterans. “We are grateful to the South Burlington Vet Center for enabling us to extend these programs and services to all veterans in the local community.”
