Adventure Film Series Screening Pays Homage to Mountain Culture

February 5, 2015

Lyndon State College’s Adventure Film Series continues with Warren Miller‘s No Turning Back. The film will be screened Sunday, February 15, in the Alexander Twilight Theatre at 8 p.m.; doors open at 7:30. It is free and open to the public. The 2014 movie is the 65th annual feature film from Warren Miller Entertainment, a pioneer in action sports cinematography. This newest installment pays homage to the 65 years of mountain culture and adventure filmmaking that has lead Warren Miller Entertainment to every corner of the winter world-a legacy that dates back to “before skis had edges and mountains had condos.”

Warren Miller’s annual film tradition marks the beginning of colder weather, winter exploration, and features premier cinematography. No Turning Back revels in winter’s heritage while pushing the boundaries in Japan, the Swiss Alps, Montana, France, and more. It highlights top athletes including Sierra Quitiquit, Rob Kingwill, Ingrid Backstrom, Oystein Aasheim, and Seth Wescott.

“Everywhere we go, Warren Miller Entertainment finds people who have dedicated their lives to the mountains,” says producer Josh Haskins. “Every location we shoot at, from the smallest local hills to the top of Alaska’s Chugach, speaks to skiers and snowboarders because, at the end of the day, all we need are some steep slopes and some snow to cover them.”

Next up in LSC’s Adventure Films Series is a double feature slated for Wednesday, March 25. The Long Hope and Antidote will be shown at 7 p.m. in the Moore Community Room/ASAC 100. The film series is presented by Lyndon’s Adventure Program and the Lecture and Arts Series, with support from Hayes Ford and media sponsor Vermont Broadcast Associates.
