Women’s History Month at JSC

Johnson State College is celebrating Women’s History Month in March with talks by several special guests, including:

• Tuesday, March 8: Kesha Ram, a Democratic legislator, will speak at 7 p.m. in Stearns Student Center’s Cinema Room. Ram is the youngest member of the Vermont House. On Oct. 11, 2015, she announced that she would run for lieutenant governor. At JSC, she’ll speak about her legislative work and experiences as a progressive woman in Vermont politics. • Wednesday, March 9: Wynona I. Ward, an attorney and founder of Have Justice-Will Travel, will speak at 4:30 p.m. in Dewey Hall’s 1867 Conference Room. Ward’s organization is bringing an end to the generational cycle of abuse for women and children in rural communities through a unique and innovative mobile multi-service model. This model assists domestic violence victims from the initial interview and relief from abuse order through to self-reliance and independence. • Tuesday, March 15: Professional climber, author, filmmaker and entrepreneur Majka Burhardt brings her stories of challenge, humanity and the fine line between extreme and acceptable risk to a talk at 7 p.m. in 207 Bentley Hall. She is the author of Coffee Story: Ethiopia and Vertical Ethiopia: Climbing Toward Possibility in the Horn of Africa, executive producer of Waypoint Namibia and founder of LEGADO, an initiative that inspired the forthcoming film Namuli, about her climbing and conservation research expedition to Mozambique. She is also the founder/director of Additive Adventure, a non-profit organization that builds cultural and environmental connections worldwide.
