NVU Online Expands Programs, Lowers Tuition for Fall 2019
Northern Vermont University has implemented the first of two 2019 tuition reductions, added programs, and introduced a live hybrid model for its popular NVU Online division.
The measures address the need for affordability and flexibility with degree and certificate programs and help Vermont advance workforce goals.
“NVU Online is aligning with the governor and the Vermont State Colleges System and their strategic goal of providing Vermonters with increased credentials after high school,” NVU Associate Dean of Distance Education Programs Bobbi Jo Carter says. “With a highly competitive job market, these are additional credentials we can provide to give students a competitive advantage when they’re seeking employment.”
A reduced summer per-credit tuition rate is in effect now, and the rate will be cut again Sept. 3.
NVU Online’s new programs are a bachelor’s degree in criminal justice with a concentration in restorative justice, an associate degree in business administration, a sport management concentration for the business administration bachelor’s degree, and certificates in sustainability and small business management. The offerings are among nine degree programs and three certificate programs that are completely online.
The new programs address student interests and economic development needs. “We want to better serve students looking to go into new and growing career fields,” Carter says.
Additionally, NVU has launched its first online master’s degree, an M.A. in leadership studies meant for middle-level managers. This degree is priced with graduate-level pricing.
Another initiative, NVU Live Online, will launch Sept. 3 for students who want an online program with real-time interaction with faculty and classmates. The live online option also is available for high school students dually enrolled at NVU.
“Students will have the advantage of being online, so they don’t have to go to campus. It supplements the typical online course with a live piece,” Carter says. “Instead of having discussion boards where you wait to hear a response from others, you get an animated live conversation.”
About 800 students in 43 states and five countries are enrolled in NVU Online programs.
