We Stand as a Destination for Elevated Thinking

The English program at Northern Vermont University emphasizes the connection between literature and writing, art and craft. You’ll learn to recognize and identify the major genres of literature and their relationship to world literary traditions. Enthusiastic and accomplished faculty make literature come alive as you explore the many ways writers around the world have used the English language to express the complexities of the human experience.

English majors graduate with a strong foundation in the theory and practice of English literature and writing throughout the centuries. Your degree will prepare you for graduate study if continuing your education is a goal. And English majors are well-suited for careers in a range of industries. Our graduates go on to teach, work in advertising and marketing, pursue journalism and editing, and more.
