Welcome to Northern Vermont University-Johnson!

We’re excited you have decided to Do North at NVU-Johnson. We offer a weekend fall kickoff program for new students as well as a week of fun and informative events for the entire campus community to celebrate the start of a new academic year!

Fall Kickoff will take place on Friday, August 20 through Sunday, August 22. Classes begin on Monday, August 23.

Fall Orientation (August 20-23, 2021)

Orientation provides the opportunity for students to learn how things work, to learn what resources are available to them, to meet other students who are also beginning their academic journey at NVU Johnson and to feel comfortable in their  new community. We expect all students to participate in Orientation and look forward to connecting with you.

Friday, August 20

  • 9 a.m. – 1 p.m.: NVU Cribs, Residential Check-In
    Location: Small Tent on the Quad
    *You will receive  your NVU Orientation folder and Johnson Swag Bag at check-in. PLEASE keep your NVU Orientation folder with you throughout the day Friday**
  • 10:30 a.m. – 12 p.m.: Commuter Student Check-In
    Location: Dewey
    *You will receive  your NVU Orientation folder and Johnson Swag Bag at check-in. PLEASE keep your NVU Orientation folder with you throughout the day Friday**.
    Commuter students are strongly encouraged to participate in all campus events during Orientation Weekend and throughout the semester!
  • 11:30 a.m. – 1:30 p.m.: Lunch

  • 1:30 – 2 p.m.: Family Goodbyes/Send Off
    Location: Quad Area
    **PLEASE NOTE: THIS WILL BE THE LAST CHANCE FOR FAMILY FAREWELLS BEFORE STUDENTS JOIN THEIR ORIENTATION GROUPS AND OFFICIALLY BEGIN STUDENT ORIENTATION**
  • 2 – 2:30 p.m.: Students Meet Your Orientation Group
    Meet at the Big Tent to connect with your Orientation Leaders
  • 2 p.m.: Families Depart Campus
  • 2:30 – 3:30 p.m.: Johnson Welcome Jamboree
    Location: Dibden
  • 3:30 – 5 p.m.: Campus Community Carnival
    Location: Quad
  • 4:30 – 7 p.m.: Dinner with Your Orientation Team
    Location: Stearns
  • 7:30 – 9 p.m.: Bonfire and Live Music with SOULSTICE!!
    Location: Lower Pond
  • 9 – 10 p.m.: Making It: Late Night with Sodexo and SLAP
    Location: Stearns Fireplace Area

Saturday, August 21

  • 9:30 – 10:30 a.m.: Breakfast Meeting with OLs 
    Location: Stearns
  • 10:30 – 11 a.m.: OL Group Activity Planned
    Location: various quad locations
  • 11 a.m. – 12 p.m.: Common Read Program
    Location: various quad and building locations. **Bring your common read book Indivisible, your common read guide and  your touchstones card to this program**
  • 12 – 1:30 p.m.: Brunch
    –    Location: Stearns
  • 1:30 – 2:30 p.m.: Student Safety Resources: Intro to Wellness Center, Residential Life, and Public Safety
    Location: Dibden
  • 2:30 – 3 p.m.: Free Time
  • 3 – 4:30 p.m.: Real World: NVU
    Location: Activities happening all over campus
  • 5 – 6:30 p.m.: Club Connection Dinner
    Location: Stearns
  • 7 – 9 p.m.: Johnson Shore: Pool Party and Games
    Location: SHAPE Pool and Patio
  • 9 – 10 p.m.: Late Night with Sodexo and Serve
    Location: Performance Space

Sunday, August 22

  • 9:30 – 10:30 a.m.: Breakfast Meeting with OLs 
    Location: Stearns
  • 11 a.m. – 12 p.m.: Walk Your Class Schedule with OLs
    Location: Meet outside of the front entrance of Stearns
  • 12 – 1:30 p.m.: Brunch
    Location: Stearns
  • 1:30 – 2:30 p.m.: Badger Buttons
    Location: Large Tent
  • 2:30 – 3 p.m.: Free Time
  • 3 – 4:30 p.m.: The Amazing Race
    Location: Meet Under the Large Tent
  • 4:30 – 7 p.m.: Dinner
    Location: Stearns
  • 7 – 8 p.m.: Floor Meetings
    Location: Residence Halls
  • 8:30 – 10:30 p.m.: Campus Outdoor Movie Night
    Location: South Lawn

Monday, August 23

First Day of Classes!!

Tuesday, August 24

  • 11:30 a.m.: Opening Convocation
    Location: SHAPE Facility.
    Students will line up with their Orientation Group and process through the campus quad to Dibden Center of the Arts where they will be welcomed and celebrated by the Johnson Staff and Faculty. Opening Convocation program to follow.
  • 12:15(ish) p.m.: Community BBQ 
    Location: Quad
