Take your first steps as a Northern Vermont University student at NVU-Lyndon’s SOAR.

SOAR (Student Orientation Advising and Registration) — Welcome, new students and families! We are all very excited to give you a heartfelt, informative, and educational welcome to Northern Vermont University and a solid start to your NVU journey. First-time Lyndon students will have two opportunities to prepare for their fall semester.

Virtual SOAR

This online learning course offers access to several informational and learning modules to orient you to life at Northern Vermont University. These modules include video presentations from staff and students on information related to Academic Advising, Academic Support Services, Student and Residence Life, First year programming, Public Safety, Athletics, Dining Services and Student Financial and Billing Services.

Virtual SOAR kicks off on Canvas, July 13, 2022 at 6 p.m. with an official welcome from your Orientation Team and an introduction to the SOAR online course. You will also meet your Peer Orientation leader at this virtual kick-off event.

All enrolled students are automatically enrolled into SOAR and are expected to participate in this online course prior to their arrival in August.

Spend the day with us on campus, meet with staff and faculty, connect with fellow first-year students and your campus Peer Leaders. Use this day to also take care of any academic, financial or housing business before you arrive in August.

    The First Year Experience at Lyndon
    Join several members of the Department of Student Affairs as they share how to get involved and keep connected on campus, as well as offices who will be able to help and support you through your Lyndon journey!

    Meet your Peer Leaders and prepare for the day while getting to know some of the other members of your class!

    Intro to Web Services and Canvas
    The NVU Portal is an important resource for all Lyndon students. You will learn how to access and navigate through this online resource by viewing your tuition bill, Canvas, email, campus announcements, and other important resources.

    Academic Planning and Advising Prep
    Your Peer Leader will help you review your preliminary schedule, look at how it aligns with your 4 year plan, and prepare for your advising appointment with an advisor later in the day!
  • 12-1:30 p.m., Stevens Dining Hall/Veterans Park
  • 1-2:30 p.m., Various Labs
    Intro to your Major and Academic Advising
    Meet with department faculty and learn about your chosen field of study. This session will provide an overview of the classes you can expect to take during your first year and beyond, who to connect with for help and support within your academic department, and experiential learning opportunities that await you. You will also review your class schedule for the fall semester and discuss any adjustments needed with a faculty member from your major.
  • 2:30-3:50 p.m., Alexander Twilight Theater
    Student Administrative Services, Academic Support, and FAIR at Lyndon
    Student Services is made up of the business office, financial aid, and the registrars office-join this office on campus and will share with you what’s important to know about registering for classes, paying your bill, your financial aid and everything in between. Academic Support will provide you with resources to help you succeed here with your coursework. FAIR is a student organization that helps with spreading information about Diversity and Inclusion here on campus.

    Closing Program
    The First Year Staff will take you though the next steps to take before returning to campus for the fall semester; things to remember, important dates, and get you excited for Check-In and Fall Orientation!
